Controller Assembly and Testing Complete!

By Agustin April 8, 2011

I was able to solder everything on my Joystick Shield controller, and test it in both Arduino and Processing! Huzzah!

Although I must say that this being my only second time soldering these tiny little components in, my soldering looks pretty crappy compared to the one on the awesome Joystick Shield Assembly Guide on Sparkfun. I want to know how they solder the Uno so perfectly! Having that article made all the difference – I only really messed up one thing, the alignment of a header, which I was able to fix. Although it probably took me way longer than it should have, I am psyched that the thing works. I was able to run all of the test sketches from both processing (using the Processing Arduino Library) and in Arduino. I immediately was interested in getting it working in processing so I can learn a little bit about serial communication, and with the controller, I have lots of inputs, and all of the outputs of the Arduino!
Oh and I figured out why I need to get a third hand – soldering in LEDs is one thing, but soldering in four headers required some McGuyver action with my #1 Best tool!

Hello, I think your site might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your website in Firefox, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, amazing blog!

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get setup? I'm assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very web savvy so I'm not 100% sure. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
